2005 marks the 60th anniversary of the United Nations. This anniversary comes at a time when the United Nations is looking closely at its current and future role in world affairs.

The United Nations 60th Anniversary forum is one of three international forums in 2005 which teams up Australian students with young people from overseas to record live interviews with international guests.

The forum will enable three students from Australia and three students from the United States to interview United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, Shashi Tharoor, about issues currently affecting of the United Nations.

The forum is being sponsored by the National Museum of Australia, the United Nations and the Museum of Television and Radio in New York.

A special feature of this forum is the role of Talkback Classroom US student envoy, Tom Meyer, from Washington DC. Tom, a former Talkback Classroom student panellist himself, recently visited Australia to help the Australian students prepare for the forum.
