Then and Now

Preschool–Year 4

Exhibition visited: Nation gallery

Duration: 75 minutes

$3 per student

Maximum group size: 30 (larger groups of up to 60 can be accommodated by dividing the group into two)

Aim

The aim of this program is to provide students with the opportunity to investigate the changes in everyday Australian life over the last 100 years through objects and displays in the Museum.

Outline

The program has three main components:

  1. Introduction – students are introduced to the concept of change over time. They handle objects that would have been used in the home and discuss how these objects have changed or been superceded.
  2. Gallery visit – working in groups, students explore the Nation gallery, looking at objects which have changed over time.
  3. Gallery activity – students participate in a treasure hunt for key objects in the gallery.

As students only visit one exhibition during this program, you may like to allow time to visit other exhibitions and to explore other parts of the Museum.
