Springboard into Australian History

Years 5–12*

Exhibition visited: Nation gallery

Duration: 30 minutes facilitated, then allow 40 minutes for teacher-guided exploration

$2.50 per student

Maximum group size: 30 (larger groups of up to 60 can be accommodated by commencing the program at 30 minute intervals)

Aims

The aim of this program is to provide students with the opportunity to:

  • explore icons, events and themes relating to Australian history
  • exercise their general knowledge of Australia
  • explore the Nation gallery and complete an engaging activity.

Outline

The program has two main components:

  1. Introduction – working in teams, students explore Australian history through a lively quiz show activity.
  2. Gallery visit – under the supervision of their teachers, students visit the Nation gallery and working in pairs, develop their own quiz questions focused on Australian history.

As students only visit one exhibition during this program, you may like to allow time to visit other exhibitions and to explore other parts of the Museum.
