Years 11–12

Exhibitions visited: Choose from any gallery

Duration: 45 minutes facilitated, then allow 45 minutes teacher-guided exploration

$2.50 per student

Maximum group size: 30 (larger groups of up to 60 can be accommodated by commencing the program at 45 minute intervals)

Aim

The aim of this program is to provide students with the opportunity to:

  • develop skills in observation, analysis and critical thinking
  • explore the way museums interpret and represent history using a variety of philosophies and media.

Outline

The program has two main components:

  1. Introduction – through object handling, students investigate the relationship between objects and how various types of exhibit media and exhibition techniques impact on the visitors' experience and understanding.
  2. Gallery visits – under the supervision of their teachers, students examine an exhibition display, identify the methods used to convey exhibition messages and determine the effectiveness of these in engaging Museum visitors.

You may like to allow extra time to visit other exhibitions and to explore other places in the Museum.
