Investigates how the National Museum tells the story of Australia in a concise timeline of objects and labels, and encourages students to critically evaluate it. Students are also asked to create their own timeline of Australian history.

The student activities included in this unit cover the following topics:

  • Activity 1: Brainstorming to create a list of events
  • Activity 2: Identifying 'messages' in representations of history such as timelines
  • Activity 3: Analysing the National Museum of Australia's timeline display as a representation of Australian History
    Activity 4: Researching events to include in a decade
  • Activity 5: Creating a timeline representation of Australian History
