Tips for visiting

How do we get to the Museum?
The National Museum of Australia is located on Lawson Crescent, Acton Peninsula, Canberra, ACT.

Is there anywhere to eat at the Museum?
In addition to the Museum's two cafés, there are ample areas for students to eat lunch including the outside decking area, the lake foreshore and in the event of inclement weather, the Hall.

Can students bring their bags into the Museum?
We prefer that students leave their bags on the bus. If this is not possible, limited bin space is available. The Museum takes no responsibility for personal items brought into the Museum.

What else can students do at the Museum?
In addition to the Museum's education programs, students can explore a number of areas in the Museum including areas designed specifically for children. In particular, we recommend that students visit Circa and Kspace.

How much time should we spend at the Museum?
We recommend that you allow an extra hour when booking into a paid program to enable your students to explore all that the Museum has to offer.

Can students take photographs while at the Museum?
Cameras can be used although flash photography and photography of objects on loan to the National Museum of Australia are not permitted. Photography is not allowed in the major temporary exhibition gallery.

How can I prepare students for their visit to the Museum?
Prior to your visit, you will be sent supporting materials specific to your program to help prepare your students for their experience and reinforce the main concepts when you return to your classroom.

Does the Museum have a shop?
Yes, the Museum Shop is located in the Hall.
