2006 Drawing the lines: schools political cartooning competition - winning entries

To complement the Behind the Lines: The Year's Best Cartoons exhibition, the National Museum of Australia invited upper primary and secondary school students from the Australian Capital Territory and regional New South Wales to enter a political cartooning competition entitled Drawing the Lines.

All entries received were of a very high standard with a strong focus on current political issues.

A ceremony and morning tea were held at the Museum on Thursday 21 December 2006, with the prizes being presented by the Museum's General Manager of Audience and Public Programs, Louise Douglas.

The competition was judged by Fiona Katauskas, a freelance cartoonist from Sydney who is a contributor to The Chaser.

The prizewinners in each category are:

Primary

1st prize - Joss Kirk, Weetangera Primary School, ACT

2nd prize - Tilly Avery, Macquarie Primary School, ACT

3rd prize - Rin Rin Ly and Katherine Lewis, Macquarie Primary School, ACT


Secondary

1st prize - Michael Klose, St Francis Xavier College, ACT

2nd prize - Rachael Lewis, Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School, NSW

3rd prize - Nick Lever, St Francis Xavier College, ACT
