The National Museum of Australia is pleased to announce that the winner of the 'Museum Display' category in the 2007 National History Challenge is Isabelle Robinson, a Year 5 student from St Michael's Collegiate School, Hobart. The overall theme for this year's Challenge was 'Lessons from the Past'. The 'Museum Display' category is sponsored by the National Museum of Australia.

Isabelle's entry, titled the 'Tasman Bridge Disaster' investigated the 1975 collapse of the Tasman Bridge spanning the Derwent River, following a ship's collision with one of the bridge's pylons. Here's how Isabelle's work was described in the awards ceremony program:

'Isabelle's investigation of the 1975 Tasman Bridge collapse has several outstanding features. These include a broad range of primary sources, clearly displayed interpretation and careful consideration of the lessons learnt from the collapse. Her entry effectively combines the elements of a real museum display, even to the extent of being suitable for travelling exhibitions. Isabelle has presented a diligent and evocative study of this dramatic incident from Tasmania's history.'

The entry is currently on display in the Hall at the Museum; it will be displayed throughout the December-January school holidays. Below are two images of Isabelle's entry. Information regarding the 2008 National History Challenge will be available early in the year at http://www.nma.gov.au/education/.
