Remote visitors will interact with an educator through the robot

Thanks to an innovative partnership project with CSIRO and the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, school students from regional and remote Australia will be able to virtually visit the Museum using mobile telepresence technology via the emerging National Broadband Network.

The new technology will enable students to interact with a museum facilitator through a robot equipped with an omni-directional camera allowing each student to control their own view of the museum gallery. The students will also have access to additional digital content about objects on display.

The education team at the National Museum is currently devising a number of interactive, collaborative and curriculum relevant programs for schools that will take part in the project trial over the coming months.
