Daintree's glass plates slideshow

The Richard Daintree collection at the National Museum of Australia consists of ten glass photographic plates depicting various people and places in Queensland between 1864 and 1870.

These images portray miners and their families, Aboriginal people and Islander labourers and life in mining settlements and missions. They extend the much larger body of Daintree's work, which tends to focus on landscapes and geological features.

Men outside a hut, probably taken at Gympie about 1870. Daintree called this image 'Sunday afternoon at home'.

This image of a bullock team appears to have been one of Daintree's favourites. It was useful for showing the nature of Queensland agriculture to prospective immigrants. Daintree used it repeatedly in exhibitions and publications and it also appears in his Queensland Album, held by the National Library of Australia.
