The South African cap: Edgar Mayne's photograph album

Batsman Edgar Mayne kept this album as a souvenir of the Australian cricket team tour of England and South Africa in 1921. The tour began with warm-up games in Western Australia before a long sea voyage. Mayne used the album to record his experiences on and off the field.

This word is angled so that the 'P' at the beginning is lower than the 's' at the end. The left of the photo shows the spine and the gold-coloured cord used to hold the album together. There are some scuff marks and scattered white spots on the album cover.

Around the photo is brown paper, which appears to have been stuck down to the dark brown album cover. Above the team photo is written in ornate script the following: 'Snapshots of the Tour of the Fifteenth Australian Eleven'. The writing continues under the photo where it says 'in England and S Africa Season 1921'. In the bottom right corner of the cover is written 'by W Ferguson Scorer Sydney'.
