Bean Car, 1920s

Francis Birtles and Alec Barlow sped out of Darwin in this Bean 14 car on 22 October 1926. Eight days and 13 hours later they reached Melbourne, setting a new record for crossing Australia in a motor vehicle. The Bean 14 car, also known as 'The Sundowner', is one of the most popular objects in the Museum.
