The National Museum's Registration team is led by Manager Carol Cooper. The team is supported by Adminstration Assistants Cheryl Smith and Donna Wilks.

Carol Cooper

Carol has been the National Museum's Registration Manager since 1998.

Carol has worked in collecting institutions as an audiovisual archivist, curator and collections manager. From 2002 to 2006 she was President of the Australian Registrars Committee.

Highlights of Carol's work with the National Museum include preparations for the opening of the Museum at Acton in 2001 and working on the Museum's first international exhibition, Stories from Australia.

Carol has also worked closely with the Maple Brown family on the transfer of the Springfield collection and managed the receipting and documentation of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs art collection.

Carol is also the National Museum's contact officer for the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service.

Carol has an honours degree in archaeology and anthropology. Her research interests include:

  • south-east Australian Indigenous visual culture in the nineteenth century
  • collections of objects and photographs of Aboriginal people located in museum collections overseas
  • the uses of museum collections.
