Thomas Makdougall Brisbane

Description
Thomas Makdougall Brisbane (1773-1860) succeeded Lachlan Macquarie as Governor of the colony of New South Wales in November 1821. A keen astronomer, Brisbane established an observatory and library at Parramatta. He also established proper land surveys in the colony and supported legal and administrative reforms, before his departure in 1825.
