Sydney Town
Description The original settlement at Sydney Cove, on the southern shore of Port Jackson, quickly developed into a mature town. Its mercantile port grew in importance, driven by rising government trade and private enterprise. By the 1830s, Sydney's boundaries were extended by the developing suburbs of Newtown, Pyrmont, Redfern, Surry Hills and Woollomoolooo.
