Richard Johnson
Description Richard Johnson (1753-1827) was a Church of England clergyman appointed chaplain of the First Fleet in 1787. A graduate of Cambridge University, Johnson worked tirelessly in New South Wales and built the colony's first church at his own expense. He was also a successful farmer and supervised the colony's schools. In 1792, Johnson wrote An Address to the Inhabitants of the Colonies, Established in New South Wales and Norfolk Island, for distribution in the colony. He left for England in 1800.
