Hyde Park Barracks
Description The three-storey Hyde Park Barracks was opened on 4 June 1819. Designed by convict architect Francis Greenway, the Georgian building could accommodate 600 men. Well-behaved convicts were given weekend release or were occasionally allowed to live outside the barracks if they had families. The project to build the barracks was initiated by Governor Lachlan Macquarie.
