Francis Greenway

Description
Francis Howard Greenway (1777-1837) was an English architect transported for forgery in 1814. He was granted a ticket-of-leave soon after he arrived in New South Wales and began soliciting for work. Governor Lachlan Macquarie granted him a conditional pardon after he completed his first commission, the lighthouse on South Head, Sydney Harbour. Greenway won renown for his design of the Female Factory at Parramatta, new Government House, the Supreme Court building and many colonial churches.
