Charles Sturt

Description
Charles Sturt (1795-1869) was an army captain who became a famed explorer in colonial Australia. He defined the course of the Darling, Murrumbidgee and Murray Rivers in a series of expeditions from 1828 to 1830. Between 1844 and 1846, Sturt mounted an expedition from Adelaide to central Australia, in an unsuccessful attempt to establish the existence of a vast inland sea.
