Blue Mountains
Description The Blue Mountains west of Sydney proved an impenetrable barrier to early colonial expansion in New South Wales. An area of rugged tablelands, sheer cliffs and deep valleys, several attempts were made to cross the range before Gregory Blaxland, William Wentworth and William Lawson were successful in 1813. In December 2000, the Blue Mountains was entered on the World Heritage list for outstanding natural values.
