Bennelong
Description Bennelong (?-1813) of the Dharug people was captured by order of Governor Arthur Phillip and brought to Sydney in 1789. He lodged with the Governor, learned English and became accustomed to the colonists' habits and customs. In 1790, Bennelong escaped from the settlement but re-established contact later in the year, when a hut was built for him at Bennelong Point, where the Sydney Opera House now stands. In 1792, he sailed with Yemmerrawanyea to England, where he was presented to George III.
