Recent awards

The Museum is thrilled to have won five major awards in May 2016:

  •  three MAGNA (Museums and Galleries National Awards)
  •  an ICOM (International Council of Museums) Australia Award
  •  a silver MUSE Award from the American Alliance of Museums



Kspace, the Museum’s new interactive game for kids, won the MAGNA Interpretation, Learning and Audience Engagement Award at the Museums Australasia conference in Auckland on 18 May.

It also won a silver MUSE Award in the Multimedia Installations category at the 2016 American Alliance of Museums Annual Meeting in Washington, DC on 26 May.

The MUSE awards recognise outstanding achievement in media and technology programs by galleries, libraries, archives and museums around the world.

The Museum received two MAGNA awards for Encounters: Revealing Stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Objects from the British Museum:

  • Award for Best Major Temporary Exhibition
  • Co-Winner of the Best Museum Project Overall

International Program

In addition, the Museum won the ICOM Australia Award for our multi-faceted International Program.

This award recognised our joint Encounters and Indigenous Australia: Enduring Civilisation exhibitions with the British Museum, as well as our international engagement, displays, exhibitions and exchanges in more than 13 countries.
