John Clark
Almost 80 years ago, an Australian adventurer drove straight out of London and into the record books. For Francis Birtles and the Bean 14, better known then as the Sundowner, it was the final act in a record-breaking partnership. After conquering the vastness of Australia, Birtles became the first to drive the 26,000 kilometres from England to Australia. The Sundowner now stands in the National Museum of Australia, an evocative reminder of motoring's glory days.
