Canberra rated third best destination

25 Oct 17

The secret’s out – Canberra is one of the top city destinations in the world!

We’re so excited that Lonely Planet has ranked Canberra third in its top cities to visit in 2018. Lonely Planet has recognised what we here in Canberra have known for some time – Canberra is a world-class destination, bulging with cultural, gastronomic and outdoor attractions.

This award gives us an opportunity to share Canberra with even more people, both here and abroad. When you visit, you can’t afford to miss Cultural Canberra. What other city offers such a smorgasbord of art and culture in world-class cultural institutions – like here at the National Museum of Australia?

History, politics, literature and leading Australian contemporary, Indigenous and historic art, are all on offer at cultural centres across the city.

We can’t wait to welcome even more visitors through our doors to share with them the extraordinary story of Australia’s Indigenous First Peoples – acclaimed as the oldest living culture in the world – alongside the country’s rich colonial history and its cultural diversity.

Our current breakthrough exhibition Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters is making headlines of its own around the country. We hope the Lonely Planet commendation gives people even more reason to visit Canberra – and to take in this extraordinary exhibition while they are here.
