Reasons to explore

The National Museum of Australia has a vibrant exhibitions and events program. During gallery development some spaces will be closed to the public, but there is still much for visitors to see and do.

Visit the permanent galleries or a special exhibition, participate in a program, take a guided tour or check out the virtual world of Kspace or the striking Garden of Australian Dreams.

Nation

A visitor services host talks to visitors about the FJ Holden car.

Symbols of Australia

The FJ Holden car is one of the most recognisable cultural artefacts of 1950s Australia. Holdens were complex symbols of freedom and independence, as well as suburban conformity.

First Australians

Gallery of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples

These beautiful spear points were hand-crafted in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The points were made using ancient tool-making principles and were a valuable item of trade.

Dhari a Krar

Dhari a Krar: Headdresses and Masks from the Torres Strait brings together a diverse collection of stunning and rare masks, headdresses and dance objects from the Torres Strait dating from the mid-1800s to the present.

Multimedia modules developed for the 'Goolarri: The sounds of Broome' exhibit, which replicates a radio studio.

Goolarri

'Goolarri: The Sounds of Broome' is in a recreated red, corrugated iron studio. Here visitors can test their skills as a radio announcer by introducing a record or announcing the weather.
