The National Museum of Australia is undertaking an exciting program of gallery development to share more great stories about Australia's land, nation and people.
Museums often update and change exhibitions and programs. Only a small percentage of objects from the National Historical Collection is on display at any time. New galleries allow the Museum to share previously unseen treasures and to show recent acquisitions.
Developing new galleries also allows the National Museum to incorporate the latest techniques and technologies and to provide fresh experiences for our visitors.
The gallery development program will be staged over two years:
- The Horizons gallery closed on 14 October 2007 and will reopen as Australian Journeys in late 2008
- The Nation gallery closes in 2009 and will reopen as Creating a Country in late 2009.
Throughout the gallery development process the National Museum will remain open, with plenty for visitors to see and do.
